Venice Family Clinic | HEART Gala Mural
The Venice Family Clinic is a non-profit that provides healthcare services to 45,000+ people in LA, regardless of their income, insurance, or immigration status.
The Clinic’s HEART Gala on May 11 brought together artists, businesses and philanthropists who help make the Clinic’s work possible. The evening was a celebration of creativity and compassion, and the inaugural HEART award was presented to The Edge of U2 and his wife, Morleigh Steinberg, supporters of Venice Family Clinic.
I was commissioned to create an interactive art installation for the night of the event. Working with the Clinic’s timeline and logistics for the event, as well as the Gala’s existing branding and color palette, I opted to develop a freestanding 12x8’ mural inspired by the Gala’s theme (Health + Art = HEART).
Client: Venice Family Clinic
Scope: Interactive art development, illustration, mural painting
I chose to include the message “Art Lifts the Heart” and imagery that would feel approachable, uplifting, and slightly whimsical. The mural served as a photo backdrop and also featured an interactive element; to the side of the mural was a table with postcards, some blank and some with prompts on the theme of art and happiness. Guests were invited to fill out a postcard and attach it to strings of light on each side of the mural, and to read the messages shared by other guests.
The free-standing mural was painted off-site and later transported to the Gala event space
Postcards, both blank and with prompts, were provided to invite guests to share a personal message around the theme of the event, health + art
The inaugural HEART award was given to Morleigh Steinberg and her husband The Edge from U2, for exemplifying the spirit of HEART
The evening featured musical performances, headlined by Beck
